FREE COMPANY RANKS INFORMATION
Each rank represents a position of honor within the Free Company, granting it's bearer additional perks and protection.
The idea behind the system is so that YOU can decide if you want to rank up and you are given the requirements to meet before receiving the promotion.
FREE COMPANY "COURT ATTIRE"
All members of the Court of Swords are encouraged to wear full Court Attire during certain Free Company events. It is not compulsory but it is highly encouraged that new members obtain the full set!
The set consists of the following pieces:
HEAD: Nothing (Reading glasses are allowed)
BODY: Scholasticate Coat
Note: The dye color of your coat is determined by your Rank. See the rank section below to find out the color of your rank.
If you are unable to obtain the Scholasticate Coat, you may use the Best Man Set as a temporary replacement.
HANDS: Generally not allowed, but simple, unobtrusive gloves may be allowed (please ask a fellow FC member for more info)
LEGS: Linen Sarouel of Gathering
Note: The Sarouel MUST be dyed Jet Black.
FEET: High House Boots
REGARDING DYES
All dyes are provided for by the Free Company, including the Jet Black dye for the trousers. This is done as a sign of appreciation and trust in you as a longstanding member of our Court.
FREE COMPANY CRAFTING GRANTS
The Free Company is more than happy to sponsor potential Free Company crafters. We will offer Gil/Material depending on the request made to any of the Lords or Judges.
Whether or not the Grant application is granted is highly dependent on how you make your case for yourself and how trustworthy you are in the eyes of your fellow Court members.
The regular Grant value offered by the Free Company is between 1-3 Million Gil in return for assistance in Free Company Workshop Crafting and generation of Free Company money in the long run.
APPLICATION PROCESS
When an application is made to the Free Company, it is our common practice to interview potential members. We are not seeking to expand our player base to 500 members, instead we are looking for quality players who are willing to make friends and participate in events.
While we used to have a stringent "interview rule", this has not been thoroughly followed as most players in the game are generally well mannered and join with good intentions.
However, if the need arises, then any member of the Free Company is entitled to conduct a brief interview before recruiting a player. While this may only occur in exceptional circumstances (when the Free Company member target has been reached for example), it is generally not conducted and almost all applications to the Free Company are accepted without issue.

OATH SWEARING CEREMONY
Every member of the Court of Swords has sworn an oath to the Free Company. The same would apply to future members.
The ceremony is held once in a blue moon and must be done in the presence of at least 1 senior member of the Free Company.
The oath is as follows:
I solemnly and sincerely swear in the presence of the Court of Swords to treat my fellow Brothers and Sisters with respect, to trust in their wisdom and to be loyal to them when they need me the most. If I break this oath, I shall then agree to surrender myself to the Sword of Judgment
COURT ATTIRE SAMPLES
Lord Commander
This rank belongs to the leader of the Free Company and as such is only held by one person.
ROBES DYE: Metallic Gold Dye
PERKS
- Immunity from booting due to inactivity in the Free Company
- Full control of the Free Company
Lord Justice
Second in command, the Lord Justice carries out the same duties as the the Lord Commander.
ROBES DYE: Metallic Blue Dye
REQUIREMENTS
- You must display/demonstrate a positive attitude towards the growth of the Free Company
- Once a candidate has been identified, a secret meeting will be held to determine your eligibility
- If deemed eligible, the position will be offered to you
PERKS
- Immunity from booting due to inactivity in the Free Company
- Same level of control as the Lord Commander
High Judge
This is the primary administrative rank in the Free Company, managing the Free Company alongside the Lord Justice and the Lord Commander.
ROBES DYE: Metallic Sky Blue Dye
REQUIREMENTS
- You are able to find another member to vouch for you (Junior Counsel and above)
- You have ran and/or led a full FC party through Savage/Extreme content
- You have offered help/advice to members of the FC on multiple occasions
- You have personally contributed wealth, materials and/or items to the FC Workshop/Treasury
- You have been active in the FC for at least 3 months
Please note however, that obtaining this rank is still within the discretion of the High Judges, Lady of Records, Lord Justice and the Lord Commander.
PERKS
- Partial immunity from booting from the Free Company due to inactivity
- Almost full control of the Free Company
Champion
This rank belongs to the victor of the official annual FC Dueling Tournament. It is the only rank than can be earned via a duel between the current holder of the rank and a challenger. Such a duel is known within the Free Company as a Title Match.
ROBES DYE: Dark Red Dye
TITLE MATCH RULES
1. A match can only be considered official if it is conducted in the presence of either:
(a) The Lord Commander
(b) The Lady Justice
(c) The Lady of Records; or
(d) Any other person designated by those stated in (a), (b) and (c).
2. The battle restrictions will be drafted once a contender has challenged the Champion. These rules must be posted on Discord and both the Champion and the contender must be aware of them. These rules are drafted on a case by case basis to ensure fairness.
3 Regardless of the battle restrictions, the following are the mandatory rules of the title match:
(a) Only Junior Counsel and above may challenge the Champion to a title match
(b) Each title match must have a minimum of 5 rounds
(c) Each match must have a referee, who must be someone from the list stated in section 1 above
(d) In the event the contender wins the title match, the rank of Champion is automatically offered to the winner. The player is then immune from being challenged for 1 month.
(e) In the event the contender loses the title match, the contender is barred from making another challenge for 1 month
Magister
The dedicated mentor rank in the Free Company. Members of this rank are deemed to be veteran players in more than one aspect in the game.

REQUIREMENTS
- You must obtain the Mentor title before considering this rank
- You are able to find another member to vouch for you (Junior Counsel and above)
PERKS
- Almost the same level of control over the Free Company as the High Judge
Court Scribe
The dedicated crafters' rank.
This rank is granted upon request by members who wish to master crafting and gathering. The request will be scrutinized by the Judges and the Lords, who will then grant the rank if deemed worthy.
ROBES DYE: Metallic Purple Dye
PERKS
- Full control of the Free Company chest and all the materials inside
- Access to Free Company crystals, materials and gil [for crafting purposes only]
- Access to the Company Workshop as well as permission to begin and end projects
- Access to Airships and the ability to start and end voyages
- Access to gardens (when available)
High Counsel
This is the senior voice in the FC. They are they ones who make up the majority of the players in the FC and are considerably skilled in their respective jobs.
ROBES DYE: Snow White Dye
REQUIREMENTS
- You must have max level at any 3 DoW/DoM jobs
- You must approach either a High Counsel, Magister, High Judge, Lord Justice or the Lord Commander and ask for a promotion OR wait for an automatic promotion
PERKS
- High control over Free Company facilities
Junior Counsel
This is the intermediary rank in the FC. Having as much of a say as the High Counsel, the Junior Counsel represents the portion of the FC that is still keen on trying out old as well as new content.
ROBES DYE: Soot Black Dye
REQUIREMENT
- You must have max level at any 3 DoW/DoM jobs
PERKS
- Increased control over Free Company facilities
Apprentice
Members who have just joined the FC who have at least 1 class maxed out, will automatically be assigned the Apprentice Rank.

TRIAL
Achieve the maximum level in at least 1 class.
PERKS
- Slight control over Free Company facilities
Court Squire
This is for members who have not yet reached max level on any class.
ROBES UNOBTAINABLE FOR MEMBERS AT THIS RANK
PERKS
- Standard rules on booting due to inactivity apply [2 months]
- Limited control over Free Company facilities
Court Initiate
This is the rank of every new member to the Free Company. It rarely stays for long and is only left for a short duration merely to allow members of the Free Company to identify newly joined members.
